With home prices soaring in the City of Chicago, the Library Tower in the Printer’s Row neighborhood is a welcome change for both first time buyers and those who want to live and play in the city. According to Lennar’s website, while prices range from $224,000 to $727,900 – almost 20% less than similar developments – no luxury is sacrificed. This new loft-style condo development by Lennar Corporation offers one, two, and three bedroom floor plans. The floor plans’ square footage varies from 870 square feet to 2,085 square feet, and they include one to 2.5 bathrooms. Penthouses up to 4,000 square feet are also available.
SoNo in Lincoln Park
Smithfield Properties and architects Booth Hansen are at it again, teaming up on another new building and another hip acronym to toss around. In addition to their collaborative MoMo Residences going up at 8 E. Randolph in Lincoln Park, they now bring to the world (or at least to the downtown Chicago condo market) the SoNo in Lincoln Park. The SoNo, which stands for “South of North Avenue,” stands at 1454 N. Dayton, which is, indeed, two blocks south of North. Smithfield acquired the site of the project way back in 1997 and commissioned a residential building for the spot. However, a series of re-zonings for the area were proposed that delayed the progress of the project for quite some time. Things went back and forth, but in the end, Smithfield was allowed by the city to proceed with construction. Outside of the SoNo, it should be noted, current zoning prohibits residential high-rise buildings in the district enclosed by West North Avenue, North Halsted, West Division, and the Chicago River.
