South Loop
Like the Near South Side, the South Loop
holds an exciting position in the city’s
residential and business future, as the city
and developers are working to turn it into a
flourishing, cosmopolitan neighborhood.
Already, the district is alive with new
restaurants, chic boutiques, and book and
antique stores.
Downtown Loop
Downtown Chicago condos are in a class of
their own when it comes to properties in the
city. The heart of this booming metropolis,
downtown is electric. The famed Chicago
skyline originates in the Loop, giving a grand
and beautiful view to the entire city.
West Loop
The West Loop is the primary loft district of
Chicago, with many traditional brick buildings
converted to "true lofts" with exposed brick
and timber ceilings. The West Loop is
beginning to emerge as Chicago's answer to
New York's Soho, with lofts and galleries
popping up everywhere along side the old
meat packing businesses.
River North
A trip to the Chicago neighborhood of River
North provides ample dining opportunities
and great access to the city's center and the
Chicago River. Once an old manufacturing
and warehouse district, River North now has
the largest concentration of art galleries
outside of Manhattan.
Bucktown/Wickerpark/
Ukrainian Village
The Chicago neighborhoods of Wicker Park
and Ukrainian Village are part of the
northwest area of the city known as West
Town. East Ukrainian Village is a
neighborhood in which century-old housing
is constantly being redeveloped and
renovated, so much so that many have taken
to referring to it as simply "East Village".
These two neighborhoods blend together to
form what has been dubbed the hippest
neighborhoods in Chicago by local media.
These two neighborhoods feature art
galleries, chic stores and new restaurants
galore. Centered around the intersection of
Damen, North and Milwaukee (and Chicagos
Flatiron Building), this area is reminiscent of
New York Citys SoHo. The yearly Around the
Coyote festival provides a sampling of the
work of the areas artisans. Housing in this
neighborhood reflects its changing nature,
from stately homes to new loft conversions.
Lincoln Park
The area's great natural asset is Lincoln
Park itself, 1,200 acres of playing fields, bike
and jogging paths, picnic areas, and public
golf course and the renowned Lincoln Park
Zoo. Bordering Lake Michigan, the park also
offers lagoons, boat harbors and beaches.
Housing in Lincoln Park offers a wonderful
mix of historic homes, Victorian three-flats,
traditional brownstones and contemporary
condominium developments including
hi-rises overlooking Lake Michigan. New
construction projects sit next to charmingly
renovated vintage homes on tree-lined
streets.
Downtown is just a few minutes away by
convenient transportation including buses
and the L as well as by car on magnificent
Lake Shore Drive.
Once lined by stately mansions along the
lake shore, Edgewater is now the home of
many high-rise apartments and
condominiums with spectacular lake front
views and access. Beyond these residential
giants are large homes that are being
rehabbed, and are still very affordable. Close
to Loyola University, Edgewater is the home
of many students. Easy access to public
transportation and Lake Shore Drive, along
with moderate housing prices, make this
area very attractive. An old Swedish
neighborhood dating back to the mid-19th
century, Andersonville still showcases its
ethnic heritage in its bakeries, small shops
and architecture. It is also the home to the
Swedish American Museum and some of the
best coffee-cakes outside of Sweden at the
Swedish Bakery. Quaint bookstores, coffee
houses (some well-known for poetry), gift
shops and a variety of restaurants including
Persian, Asian and Mexican line the streets.
Beautiful large single-family homes, attractive
three-flats and newly renovated walk-ups
offer wonderful housing options with city
conveniences. Within Andersonville lies the
upscale Lakewood/Balmoral neighborhood.
Tree-lined streets and perfectly manicured
lawns are home to large single family
homes, as well as vintage brick and
greystones.
